DEEDS NOT CREEDS??

It seems as if one of the current buzz-term in church circles is “deeds not creeds” . Recently Rick Warren said "We need a reformation not of creeds but deeds". This rings a familiar bell with the WCC’s “Doctrine divides, service unites”.

I cannot go along with the term “deeds not creeds”. All non-Christian religions place a high premium on deeds. Angry gods must be appeased with offerings of some kind. (Read on under comments)

  1. When religion is about deeds, it is all about ourselves. The gospel is not about ourselves or about making us better people , better citizens or families . The Gospel is about Christ, the Son of God dying on a cross in our places, for our sins, to give us eternal life.

Doing good deeds follows after accepting Christ as one’s savior, out of gratitude for what He has done for us.

  2. What are the creeds of a denomination? The creeds are about the doctrine. And what is doctrine? The definition of "Doctrine" is something that is taught. A body or system of teaching relating to a particular subject such as the "doctrine of a Church".
We read in 1 and 2 Corinthians that things like greed and strife were threatening the purity of the church. What did Paul do? Did he preach about deeds? No, he reminded them of spiritual issues. The Ephesians too, he reminded that there was one Lord, one faith, one baptism, the teachings of the gospel.
Deeds not creeds? NO! Creeds first, then deeds, thus: Creeds AND deeds. Churches should be wary of liberal ideas like these.
