A question arises: Was this promise for all time? Accoring to Deut 4:40 the Lord gave the Israelites this command: “Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.”
Does this mean that there was a condition to the promise?
Gen 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, FOR AN EVERLASTING POSSESSION; and I will be their God.

YES, this is what we read in Genesis 17:
