Angus Buchan’s massive Mighty Men Conference (250 to 300,000 men camping for a whole weekend) has been the talk of the town in SA lately. The term "Mighty Men" refers to brave men, followers of King David, mentioned in 2 Samuel 23 ( and also in 1 Chron 11). There we read about thirty brave men, some named, some unnamed. Three of them must have been exceptionally brave, because their names are given: Jashobeam, Eleazar and Shammah. (Read on)
What were the characteristics of a mighty man in those days? They killed giants, enemies and wild animals, and stood their ground fighting fearlessly, not afraid to die.
ReplyDeleteBut what is a modern mighty man? Angus referred to Elijah, mentioning that he was hairy and wore a leather belt ( 2 Kings 1:8). Of course it’s not the attire that made him brave, but his belief in Almighty God and he fearlessly slay the false prophets. Angus has called upon the men not to be wimps, but to be real men , especially in their homes and families.
