My identity - Who am I (continued):
Because of The Fall (read Genesis 3) all humans are sinners. It is part of our being, like our DNA. We need to be reborn (born from above) as Jesus explains to Nicodemus in John 3. Because Jesus died for our sins, in our place on the cross, God promises to forgive us and purify us if we confess our sins (1 John 1 verse 9). We then become part of the family of God (John 1 verse 12). We can go to God anytime, 24/7. He is always there for us!

My Identity - Who am I (continued):
What matters most, is HOW GOD SEES US!! Now the question arises: How DOES God see us? One of the most striking passages on how God sees us, is Ephesians 1: verses 3 to 14. Here, Paul addresses the church in Ephesus, explaining the new identity given to a person when they are in Christ: We have been blessed wit every spiritual blessing in Christ! God has chosen us, redeemed us and forgiven us. He loves us unconditionally. In Jesus we are now blameless, He has taken ALL our sins upon Himself! What freedom we experience when this sinks in. And this new identity is for now and forever, whatever we do cannot change it.

Who am I (continued):
Since you have been called by God, you have a dynamic, unique identity in Christ. What is true about Christ, is true about you, because you are IN Christ. “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me “ (John 15:4, NIV)

My identity – who am I? (continued)
Let us look at the first identity crisis in the Bible: the Fall. Adam and Eve believed the satan’s half truths, that they would not die, that their eyes would be opened and they would be like God. They fell for the temptations because they were seeking to be autonomous and it would make them independent of God. They succumbed and became disobedient to God. They lost their likeness to God, spiritually, physically and also their Godly character. But thank God: Jesus came to restore God’s character in us. With His death on the cross He paid the full price and His resurrection is proof that we were made right in God’s eyes by the obedience of Jesus.

My identity – who am I?
Throughout the ages people have struggled with questions like: “Who am I?” Why am I here?” Where am I going after this life?” I will start with the “Who am I?” first - - This question hardly ever bothers us as little children. It is only when we reach adollescence when we become aware of the opinion of others around us about ourselves. It is then when “identity” becomes a problem. And often we follow others in order to fit in with the crowd. This is where problems start. We cannot develop a true Christian identity by conforming to the world around us and what others do and have. We should firstly see ourselves as someone whom God loves deeply. Why? Because He is the one who made us after His own image. That is what we read in Genesis 1 and 2.
