Can We Trust Published Scientific Data?

Sometimes physical scientists are very presumptuous in claiming their “science” as if it is the only “science” there is. Very often they also claim that their “truth” is the only truth there is. But the question is: can we really trust published scientific data?

There is always a time and a place for righteous anger.

In our personal, day to day, lives when we see any form of injustice, it makes us mad inside. There are so many examples of injustice that we can’t count them. Some simple examples are when we see a bully beating up on a young kid, when we see a thief stealing an old woman’s purse, when we see a group of girls being catty and mean to another girl at recess, when a husband beats up his wife. The list goes on and on. The Lord God has wired us in such a way that most healthy human beings are angry inside when we see evil and injustice being done to someone.

This is called righteous anger. We are angry at evil and injustice, just as Jesus was angry that day in the temple when he saw all the injustices of people selling sacrifices at inflated prices.

The purest form of love : agape

“AGAPE denotes an undefeatable benevolence and unconquerable goodwill that always seeks the highest good of the other person, no matter what he does. It is the self-giving love that gives freely without asking anything in return, and does not consider the worth of its object. (Spirit-filled Life Bible)

Prayer, the breathing of our soul...

Praying is not merely “talking to God” , or making a list and laying it before God...

Prayer can be seen as soul-breathing in more than one way. Just as we can’t live without breathing in and breathing out, our souls need to in- and exhale.

"Sissy" attitudes?

Do modern men (and women, for that matter) have “sissy” attitudes?

Modern man wants to be able to manage the world around him; he wants to understand the universe; he wants to know how he can achieve all his goals in this one life; how to order his personal life in such a way that he is in full control. As soon as this perfect little boat is rocked , modern man trembles.

What I see, is the following: as soon as the going gets tough and he is no longer in control, modern man becomes desperate.... (Of course that is to say, if you don't find your strength in God)

Pill-popping society...

Watched Dr Phil on TV yesterday (in South Africa, we are WAY behind the actual date of broadcast!). Was about the mind-boggling increase in people abusing over-the-counter as well as prescription painkillers. I wonder why there is this massive increase in the number of pill-poppers?

On faith

Faith is a higher faculty than reason and intelligence must follow faith , never precede it and never destroy it (Thomas Kempis).

What is life worth?

What is the value of a human life? Considering Who the Giver of life is, the value of that gift is immeasurable! (Anon)

Our love tanks - filling them the right way

The more we love God, the more we will love those around us. So the secret is loving God, and loving Him more and more. How do I get to love God more and more? By having a relationship with him, that is, spending time with Him. We can start with two things: glorifying God and thanking Him (Rom 1:21).

Empty love tanks!

Many people are trying to fill their empty love tanks with all kinds of stuff – not knowing that God created man with a space only He Himself can fill...

What am I worth?

Your worth consists in what you are and not in what you have - Thomas Edison

Glory be to God!

GLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

From the poem “Pied Beauty” by Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–89).

Heaven on earth...

God and the big bang

If God was clever/mighty enough to cause the whole of creation by the Big Bang, isn’t it reasonable to say that He was clever/mighty enough to create it like it is written in Genesis?

What is COURAGE?

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to STAND in the face of fear" (Anon.)- Like the young boy David did when he faced all the wild animals as a shepherd and when he fought against and the giant Goliath ...

Love is... yet some more...

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” Noelle – age 7
“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” Tommy – age 6

Love is... and then some more...

A group of 4 to 8 year-olds were asked the question, “What does love mean?”

Below are their answers:

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” Rebecca- age 8

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” Billy – age 4

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” Karl – age 5

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” Chrissy – age 6

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” Terri – age 4

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” Danny – age 7

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss” Emily – age 8

“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)

“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,” Nikka – age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” Noelle – age 7

“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” Tommy – age 6

“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.” Cindy – age 8

“My mommy loves me more than anybody . You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.” Clare – age 6

What love really is....

Universally, “love” will be dragged all over the next few days. In the name of “love” people will be doing all kinds of ridiculous (and perchance, maybe not so ridiculous) things. Most of it will cost lots and lots of money, and old Mammon the god of riches and avarice, will have the last laugh. What IS love then, actually?

Kragtige lofprysing bring oorwinning

Homecoming... again!

The entire Bible is a coming-home story: human beings wander away from God on a long, dark path, and God brings them home. Homecoming, reconciliation, redemption . . . all themes to keep in mind when we write our magnum opuses. They make great stories because they reflect the Greatest Story.(Frederic Durbin)

Ja, hoe waar is dit nie! Verhale van mense wat wegdwaal van God op lang donker paaie, en uiteindelik, deur redding en versoening deur Jesus Christus, kom mense tuis. Die hele Bybel IS 'n tuiskoms-storie...

Homecoming....

The longing we sometimes feel that does not have its fulfillment in anything we live through from the cradle to the grave, yet still we feel that yearning; this longing that has no fulfillment in this life, is a powerful indication of the existence of Heaven — of more to the picture than we presently see. (C.S. Lewis). CS Lewis called this a “homecoming device”.

Die seën van die Here/blessings of the Lord

"Die seën van die Here , DIT maak ryk, en moeitevolle arbeid voeg NIKS daarby nie"! (Spr 10:22) - [my eie beklemtoning].
"The blessings of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it" Prov 10:22

Atheist, freethinker, are you waiting until you die?

What happens five minutes before you die? Do you think you will have "one last chance" to rethink your ideologies and beliefs (because atheism IS a belief!!).

GOOD NEWS on death and dying!

As antithesis to the previous posting, the dying words of some Christians:

John A. Lyth: "Can this be death? Why, it is better than living! Tell them I die happy in Jesus!"

John Nelson Darby: "Beyond the grave comes heaven. Well, it will be strange to find myself in Heaven, but it won't be a strange Christ - One I've known these many years. I am glad He knows me. I have a deep peace, which you know."

John Pawson, minister: "I know I am dying, but my deathbed is a bed of roses. I have no thorns planted upon my dying pillow. In Christ, heaven is already begun!"

On death and dying, once again!

Dying moments of well-known atheists:

David Hulme: "I am in the flames!"
Hobbes, English philospher: "I am standing before e frightful leap into the darkness".
The lady who nursed Voltaire on his deathbed and heard his cries throughout the final night, like: "I am abandoned by God and man! I shall go to hell!" said after his death: "For all the money in Europe I would not want so see another unbeliever die."

Another blessing...

Isa 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

You arise! You shine! Your light is here! This is a proclamation of light and hope!

The superfluity of God’s blessings!

Do we really, genuinely believe what God promises? Here is one of them:
Deut 28:2 : "And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God".

It means that God’s blessings will come over us so fast, that we will not be able to outrun them!
